Coach Thembalethu Apleni was left impressed and happy after his side, Thunderbirds Ladies, collected much-needed three points when they beat Ma-Indies Ladies’ FC in a Hollywoodbets Super League clash the weekend.
The Butterworth team, Thunderbirds Ladies, revived their hopes of escaping relegation when they beat Ma-Indies Ladies 3–0 in Gqeberha at Isaac Wolfson stadium, on Saturday afternoon.
The weekend outcome has helped Apleni’s team improve their log standings in the Hollywoodbets Super League, as they moved from 15th to 14th, with 14 points after 25 league matches.
The Butterworth team coach, speaking with media after the game, said that as a team they were happy about their perfomance and the three points they collected.
He said that the victory against bottom side Ma-Indies Ladies’ FC will boost their confidence as they were struggling to win games.
Before the weekend game, Thunderbirds Ladies played more than 12 games without a win, and their last victory in the league was against Copper Belts FC on April 23 away, when they won 1–0.
It means that the Saturday win was important to Apleni’s ladies to register their third victory of the season after 25 league matches.
Though they won over the weekend, they are still not safe from relegation as they remain at the bottom of the log standings, with the likes of Copper Belts FC, City Lads, Coal City Wizards, and Ma-Indies Ladies, and any two of those teams can be relegated at the end of the season.
This means that the Butterworth team needs to avoid any defeat in their last five fixtures, while also needing to collect points in every game in order to retain their status in the Hollywoodbets Super League this season.
Apleni said that they are looking forward to the remaining league games, and are working hard to save the team from relegation.
Their next league fixture will see them face mid-table side First Touch Academy away, in Polokwane this Sunday (October 8), and they are targeting maximum points.
