Mthatha businessman, Zwelinzima ‘PK’ Dweba, has been described as a trailblazer, a role model, an organic intellectual and a warm and loving person, during his emotional and yet elegant funeral held at Mthatha Stadium on August 27.
Dweba was gunned down in the driveway of his home in Southernwood, Mthatha, on August 13, at the age of 40.
Among several businesses PK owned in Mthatha were the popular So What Lounge in Vulindlela Heights, Highness Lounge at the Old Savoy Building, Soul Fire Shuttle service and a security services business. He also hosted some of the most popular and prestigious annual events which brought well-known names in the entertainment industry to Mthatha.
“PK had this special ability to make enemies reconcile, make the poor share the table with the rich and was powerful in this area. His death is a huge loss not only for the Dweba family but the community of Mthatha as well,” said Dr Sithule Siyotula, while paying tribute on behalf of the medical fraternity.
King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality mayoral committee member, Councillor Zukisa Gana, said PK had contributed immensely to tourism for the local municipality through the annual events he organised and hosted in Mthatha.
“We never imagined that we would gather here today to bury PK and there are no words to comfort the family because there was so much for him to still achieve,” said Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula.
PK’s rise to success dates to 2006, when he relocated to the Eastern Cape from KwaZulu-Natal, starting as a barman at Havana Lounge in Mthatha.
This was followed by his venturing into becoming a DJ at popular bars.
He went on to start his own businesses, namely, Soulfire, So What Lounge and Highness Lounge. He also ventured into the transport sector with cabs and into security services.
Over the years, PK created employment for hundreds of people across his businesses and supported multitudes of up-and-coming DJs and local businesses through his businesses as his empire grew.
He is survived by his mother, Zanele, brother Sizwe, sisters Nontobeko and Manesi and his two-month-old son, Asikelelwe.
