Two arrested for hijacking and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition




Police have arrested two suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms and a hijacked VW Polo in Ngcobo on Thursday, October 3.

According to police spokesperson Captain Siphokazi Mawisa, the arrest comes after a business robbery in Dutywa.

“It is alleged that three unknown suspects entered a business place and demanded money from the employee. They then proceed in the direction of Ngcobo,” said Mawisa. 

Police gave chase, and a shootout occurred between the suspects and the police.

“During this shootout, a male, aged 35, was fatally wounded, and two males, aged 34, were arrested. Police recovered two unlicensed firearms loaded with ammunition, a hijacked vehicle, and an undisclosed amount of cash.”

A case of aggravated robbery, hijacking, and possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition were opened for investigation.

“A murder case was opened and will be transferred to Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID)for further investigation,” Mawisa.
