SAPS spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg confirmed that a second kidnapping incident has taken place in Gqeberha in just one day.

She added that SAPS Mount Road opened a case of kidnapping and assault to cause grievous bodily harm after attending a complaint in Sydenham today (8 April 2025).

Earlier, Novus Media reported the kidnapping of a Chinese national that allegedly took place on the M17 on his way to work, as he was approaching the M17 turnoff.

Shots were fired at the Chinese national, causing him to stop and the kidnappers loaded him into a white Toyota Quantum minibus.

The matter is still under investigation.

She said, “It is alleged that at approximately 12:45, SAPS Mount Road responded to a complaint of a botched kidnapping, at Ambrose Street, Sydenham of a 21-year-old man.”

It is further alleged that while authorities were busy obtaining information in connection with the kidnapping, the victim arrived back home with injuries to his face.

“The circumstances surrounding the kidnapping and assault are currently under investigation,” Janse van Rensburg said.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact the Mount Road police station at 082 779 7186 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
