A state of the art Vehicle Testing Centre (VTS) was handed over at Cofimvaba today…

The MEC for Department of
Transport, Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe and the MEC for Department of Co-operative
Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Xolile Nqatha officially handover a
state of the art Vehicle Testing Centre (VTS) at Cofimvaba today.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Transport’s spokesperson, Unathi
Binqose, this VTS is the first of its kind in the small town of Cofimvaba and
will help local drivers who have to travel long distances to have their
vehicles tested.

Nqatha believe that this
centre will be a game changer and make life easier for both local motorists and
local traffic officers alike.

“This is certainly going to be
a game changer, not only for local motorists, but for our officers as well.

“Long distances are a thing of the past for motorists while for our officers,
every vehicle suspected of being unroadworthy can now be subjected to a
thorough test. We believe this will eliminate unroadworthy vehicles and
certainly reduce the number of vehicle crashes on our roads,” said
Tikana-Gxothiwe.

She added that the small town of Cofimvaba is also
strategically placed along the R61 road, one of the major routes connecting the
Eastern Cape and the Western Cape.

This is a route that often reaches its
all-time peak in passenger vehicle traffic during the Festive season as people
make their way home for the December holidays.

“Suspected unroadworthy vehicles
on this route will also be subjected to thorough tests.”
