Coastal Ladies’ FC began their Sasol League season on a positive note this past weekend, after crushing Ayakha Stars Ladies 3-2 during the Mthatha derby on Saturday.
Coastal Ladies have been preparing for this match since being promoted back to Sasol League earlier this year, after winning the provincial regional play-offs.
The two loved Mthatha football giants last played in the league against each other back in 2019, when Ayakha Stars won 4-0. At the end of that season, Coastal Ladies were relegated to the SAFA Regional League.
Celebrating the derby victory, Coastal troops were heard saying, “We have been called by names, including ‘children’. Guys, are we still children now after winning this match?”
In the previous years, Coastal Ladies have struggled to beat Ayakha Stars, usually registering a loss or draw, but that run ended after Saturday’s match.
If Coastal Ladies continue with their Saturday performance and improve more the whole season, it is not going to be easy for any team visiting the Ngangelizwe side.
This coming Saturday the Ngangelizwe troops, led by Vuyolwethu Mhlathi, will face Amanqilo Birds Ladies at WSU Stadium.
