Department of Employment and Labour director general Thobile Lamati has officially opened and handed over new premises for Mthatha Labour Centre today, August 11.
The new departmental offices are located at Manpower Building in Elliott Street.
The department moved from its old offices at Chatham Street to the new building after their previous office building failed to meet Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements.
“When it is raining, sewage would leak into the offices of our employees at the previous premises.
“Despite of all those challenges, our employees diligently reported for duty and were selfless in carrying out their duties and I am very proud of them for having endured those inhumane conditions,” said Lamati.
King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality executive mayor, Nyaniso Nelani, and council speaker Nomamfengu Siyo-Sokutu also attended the ceremonial handover.
