Eastern Cape Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture MEC, Feziwe Nkomonye, together with Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) President, Mzwanele Nyhontso, are currently attending the handing over and reburial of human remains of PAC member Phineas Mlotywa.


Eastern Cape Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture MEC, Feziwe Nkomonye, together with Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) President, Mzwanele Nyhontso, are currently attending the handing over and reburial of human remains of PAC member Phineas Mlotywa.

Mlotywa was sentenced to death in 1965 for murder of fellow cellmate Mhlokonjo Madellela who was also a PAC member.

The reburial forms part of the Gallows Exhumation Project which was launched in 2016.

Mlotywa was one of the prisoners who was recruited to the PAC while at the Bavianspoort  Prison while serving his sentence for other offences.

Justice and Correctional Services Minister, Ronald Lamola, officiated at a similar gathering yesterday, May 26, where he oversaw the handing over and reburial of human remains of other former PAC members Bonakele Ngcongolo and Notimba Bozwana. Lamola officiated in Qamata near Cofimvaba.

The two were members of the PAC Task Force who were charged with sabotage and subsequently sentenced to death and executed on February 11,1964.
