The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has sent out a warning of disruptive rain that can cause localised flooding in parts of the Eastern Cape.

An upper air cut-off low over the interior, with
easterly winds from the Indian Ocean high pressure, is expected to result in
heavy rain, which may lead to potential flooding between East London and Port
Edward from today, April 9 spreading to OR Tambo District Municipality, Alfred Nzo
District Municipality, Joe Gqabi District Municipality,
Emalahleni Local
Municipality, Sakhisizwe Local Municipality, Engcobo Local Municipality, Intsika Yethu Local Municipality, Mnquma Local Municipality and
Mbhashe
Local Municipality tomorrow early morning.

The disruptive rain is expected to result in
localised flooding of susceptible settlements (formal/informal), roads,
low-lying areas and bridges.

“There is also a possibility of closure of roads
crossing low water bridges, resulting in traffic disruptions,” SAWS warned in a statement.

The public is advised to
take necessary precautions to secure their properties. “They are also advised
to be aware of flooded areas when crossing streams/rivers or driving, and try
to avoid them if possible, especially areas that are prone to flooding.”
