A young woman from Ngangelizwe Township in Mthatha, Zethu Xamlayo, has come up with a solution to chase poverty away, by starting her own baking company, called Zethu Bakery.

Xamlayo confirmed that after she failed to get a job, she thought of doing something else in order to put food on the table.

“I told myself that I must do something in order to chase the poverty away. I never went to bakery school, but I only bought ingredients and equipment and then I started practising to bake at my home,” said Xamlayo.

She added that she started this business last year, and now she was interested even to teach other people how to bake. She confirmed that she had taught 15 people so far.

According to her, she had realised that it was not about being employed but everybody has their own dream and talent that need to be fulfilled.

Those who are interested in learning how to bake, pay a small fee depending on what the person wants to do.

“When people ask me how I managed to do this, I only told them that it was just something that came from my heart, meaning that people must not sit at home and wait to be employed because all of us have something in our hearts that we can do. I always tell people to do something about their wishes.”

She added that those who want to get more information about her lessons could contact her on 078 968 5131.
