Young Lions were crowned the new champions of the KwaKhanya eAfrica Music Festival and Entertainment third annual netball tournament, this past Saturday, after a 14-13 victory against Mighty Spears in a tough and entertaining final match.

This was Young Lions’ first trophy and gold medal this year.

In the semi-finals, Young Lions beat 2021 champions, Khanyisa High School, 10-8.

The victory will encourage the players to continue working hard, as they travelled 50km from Qumbu to Mthatha to compete in the tournament.

The Lions’ head coach, Lindisipho Mbukwana, said he is very excited about winning the tournament, especially winning it with an u/14 squad.

“We are building a strong team for next year,” said Mbukwana.

“This trophy and medals will boost players’ confidence and we want them to focus more on education and sport and, if possible, next year they can win scholarships.”

The Young Lions’ girls come from Qumbu, while Mighty Spears ladies were from Qweqwe.

The games were held at eMasimini Sport Ground in Ngolo.
