BUTTERWORTH-born and DStv Premiership side Sekhukhune United general manager, Luxolo Matikinca, together with Mnquma Local Football Association (Mnquma LFA), are busy finalising preparations for the brand new u/16 Nozulu Youth Legacy Cup Tournament. This is expected to be hosted at Msobomvu Sports Ground from March 24 to 26.
At least 16 soccer teams, 12 from Mnquma Local Football Association League (Mnquma LFA), and four clubs invited from outside the Mnquma area, are expected to compete in this new event.
The aim is to contribute to school sports development, township and rural sport development, and to give young players an opportunity to showcase their talent in front of scouters who will be at the event, representing their DStv Premiership teams.
Founder of the Nozulu Youth Legacy Tournament, Matikinca, said that they had invited South Africa junior national scouters and DStv Premiership teams to scout for talent during the tournament.
He also mentioned that they had invited soccer teams from different places like Mthatha, East London, Aliwal North and Nqamakhwe to be part of the event.
By inviting these teams, they are trying to give Mnquma LFA clubs an opportunity to compete with their peers who play in different leagues, so that they can learn from each other.
Matikinca highlighted that the teams will be divided into four groups, and the teams who qualified for quarter-finals would get brand new kit.
In addition, the clubs who reach the final stage will get another kit, and the winner of the tournament will go home with R5,000.
Matikinca and Mnquma LFA is also prepared to award player of the tournament, goalkeeper of the tournament, top goal scorer, and coach of the tournament, and they will also hand out other prizes that include sports equipment. This event is expected to be hosted annually in Mnquma, to contribute to sports development.
Last year Mnquma LFA hosted a similar event, but it was meant for the u/13 teams only and FC Tshabalala were the winners of the event.
